Position Summary
The Building Construction Project Manager will lead and oversee the planning, execution, and successful completion of building projects. This role requires excellent project management skills, technical expertise in building construction, and the ability to manage diverse project teams and subcontractors. The Project Manager will ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet client expectations and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and manage building construction projects from inception to completion, including commercial, industrial, and institutional developments.
  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost control.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Provide clear direction to the project team and ensure optimum utilization of resources (labour, materials, and equipment)
  • Monitor on-site construction activities to ensure they are in compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and building codes.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including budgets, schedules, contracts, change orders, and progress reports.
  • Conduct regular project meetings with stakeholders to discuss progress, address issues, and ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Resolve construction-related issues, including conflicts with subcontractors, design changes, and logistical challenges.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with legal regulations, company policies, and client requirements.
  • Monitor and control project costs, recommending corrective actions as needed to stay within budget.
  • Conduct final inspections and coordinate the handover of completed projects to clients, ensuring all punch-list items are addressed.
Employment Criteria
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a related field is preferred.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in building construction, with at least 3 years in a project management role.
  • Proven track record of managing building projects.

Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of building construction processes, materials, and methods.
  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, or similar), project scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project), and budget tracking systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, contracts, and technical drawings.
  • In-depth knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and safety regulations.

Leadership and Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage cross-functional teams.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, capable of liaising with stakeholders, clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems, manage conflict, and make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks and responsibilities concurrently.

Compliance and Safety Knowledge:
  • Thorough understanding of local, provincial, and federal building codes and safety regulations.
  • Proven track record of managing safe job sites, with a commitment to ensuring all work is performed in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to travel to job sites and work in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work long hours, including weekends and evenings, to meet project deadlines.
  • Occasional lifting and physical activity may be required.
